Packing-grade and Okoume plywood, crates and pallets for Ranchi's heavy-engineering belt
We manufacture the packing-grade plywood, export crates, pallets and container flooring that Ranchi's mining, transformer and structural-fabrication packers depend on. Manufactured in Perumbavoor by a group operating since 1986, built for dense, low-volume-per-tonne loads. We ship into the Dhurwa and Tatisilwai industrial areas on a planned eastern-India lane.
The industrial picture
Why Ranchi packs heavy
Ranchi sits in a useful place on the Indian industrial map. It is the capital of Jharkhand, the state that holds the country's deepest reserves of coal, iron ore, copper and bauxite, and it carries one of India's oldest heavy-engineering footprints. When a city ships transformers, mining shovels, hydraulic presses and forged components out by rail and road, the packaging bill of materials looks very different from the average consumer-goods packer. It is built around heavy crates, hardwood pallets and load-bearing plywood.
Three clusters drive most of the heavy-packaging demand in and around the city. The first is the heavy-engineering PSU complex at Dhurwa, a roughly 7,000-acre campus that has turned out blast-furnace equipment, mining shovels, walking draglines and steel-plant gear for half a century. The second is the Tatisilwai industrial area on the Ranchi-Purulia road, a state-promoted estate hosting auto-component suppliers, structural fabrication, electrical equipment and a long tail of MSME engineering units. The third is the iron-and-steel footprint south-east of the city, anchored by large integrated steel operations and supported by the regional engineering-college ecosystem that feeds technical talent into the belt.
The packaging takeaway is consistent. Ranchi ships heavy, dense, low-density-per-cubic-metre goods: castings, structural assemblies, mining wear parts, transformers, machined components. Almost all of it travels in wooden export crates, sits on hardwood or plywood pallets, and rides containers that need fresh plywood flooring when they arrive used. Corrugated and honeycomb packaging is a non-starter at this weight class.
What we ship
Four product lines for the Ranchi belt
We manufacture four overlapping product lines that together cover most of the city's packaging-engineering needs. Each is built for a different load type, and the right choice usually comes down to the weight of the goods, the destination port and whether the consignment is one-way or returnable.
Packing-grade commercial / rubberwood plywood
This is the backbone product for crate manufacturers across Jharkhand. We produce 6 mm through 18 mm sheets in standard 8x4 and 7x4 sizes, with rubberwood and mixed-hardwood cores glued on phenolic resin for moisture resistance under monsoon transit. Typical Ranchi-bound thicknesses:
| Thickness | Typical use |
|---|---|
| 6–8 mm | Light-machinery cartons, internal partitions, spare-parts kits. |
| 10–12 mm | General-purpose export crates for engineering goods, transformer accessory boxes. |
| 15–18 mm | Heavy-duty crates for mining equipment, castings, structural fabrications, and pallet top boards designed to take fork-lift point loads. |
Okoume-faced plywood (premium export option)
For exporters in the Ranchi belt crating goods bound for European or Gulf buyers with stricter cosmetic and uniformity expectations, the Okoume face veneer is the upgrade. Okoume is a face-veneer option on our packing and BWR grades, not a separate grade. It is lighter than rubberwood for the same panel size, takes a cleaner stencil and stamp, and is less prone to surface checking on long sea legs. We typically recommend it for high-value transformer enclosures, instrument crates and any consignment where the outer packaging itself is part of the brand impression.
Pallets and crate kits
Beyond raw sheets, we build finished pallets and pre-cut crate kits to drawing. Standard sizes shipped into eastern India are 1200x1000 mm and 1200x800 mm two-way and four-way entry pallets, with bottom-board options to suit slab and casting loads up to roughly 2.5 tonnes. Crate kits — pre-machined panels, runners and cleats — let Ranchi packers cut on-site assembly time and reduce wastage when they are short of yard space.
Container flooring plywood
Used 20-ft and 40-ft containers that come off lease through Kolkata or Vizag almost always need a new floor before they are repurposed for static storage or short-haul movement. We supply 28 mm container-floor-grade plywood, hardwood-cored and phenolic-bonded, in the standard 2400x1160 mm panel that drops directly into a container chassis without re-cutting.
Logistics
Kochi to Ranchi: how the consignment moves
The road distance from our Kochi/Perumbavoor dispatch point to Ranchi is roughly 1,900 km. We move two ways depending on order size and urgency.
| Mode | Typical lane | Transit time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full-truck road | Kochi → Bengaluru → Hyderabad → Nagpur → Raipur → Ranchi | 6–8 days door-to-door | Single-buyer 20–24 tonne consignments, time-sensitive crate kits |
| Coastal container + last-mile road | Cochin Port → Haldia / Kolkata → road haul to Ranchi (~430 km) | 12–16 days | Multi-buyer pooled loads, container-floor plywood, lower per-sheet freight |
| Rail + road | Ernakulam → Hatia (Ranchi) rake, road to estate | 8–10 days | Larger repeat orders, bulk packing-grade in mixed thicknesses |
For most one-off Tatisilwai or Dhurwa-area buyers in the 400–800 sheet range, full-truck road is the cleanest answer: single hand-off, single LR, no port-handling damage risk. For repeating monthly orders above one container, the coastal route through Haldia is materially cheaper per square foot and is what we lean on for our larger eastern-India accounts. Solid-wood components shipped with the sheets can be supplied ISPM-15 heat-treated and IPPC-marked for export crates where required.
Choosing a grade
Matching the grade to typical Ranchi loads
A simple decision rule works for most of the city's order patterns.
- Use packing-grade rubberwood ply when the consignment is engineering goods bound for domestic destinations, the crate is one-trip, and the buyer cares about cost per square foot more than cosmetics. This is the right answer for most Tatisilwai and Dhurwa-supplier cartons.
- Use Okoume-faced ply when the consignment is export-bound, the end buyer is European or Gulf-based, and the crate carries high-value or branded equipment. Common for transformer exports, precision-machined components and instrument boxes.
- Use shuttering ply when the requirement is actually civil or construction: formwork for plant-expansion sheds, MSME factory shells in Tatisilwai, or campus infrastructure. Shuttering ply is film-faced and built for repeat concrete pours, not transit.
- Use 28 mm container-flooring ply only for container repurposing or trailer-bed work, not for crates. The thickness is overkill for packaging and the cost does not pencil.
FAQ
Common questions from Ranchi buyers
Do you supply ISPM-15 compliant material to Ranchi exporters?
Our packing-grade and Okoume plywood are bonded sheets — ISPM-15 fumigation or heat-treatment certification applies to the solid-wood components (runners, cleats, pallet blocks) that crate fabricators in Ranchi typically procure locally or from us bundled with the sheets. We can quote either way; let us know if you need the runners and pallet blocks included with the consignment, IPPC-marked for export.
What is the minimum order size you ship to Jharkhand?
Practical minimum for a direct full-truck dispatch is roughly 350–400 sheets of mixed thicknesses. Below that, we either pool with other eastern-India consignments or quote on a per-container basis through Haldia. Either way, a single sheet-count and thickness mix gets a clean number back inside 24 hours.
How do you handle quality and dimensional consistency at this distance?
Every dispatch is inspected at our Perumbavoor yard for thickness tolerance, core gaps and edge straightness before it leaves. For repeat Ranchi buyers we share batch-level dispatch records — sheet count by thickness, truck number, LR copy — so the receiving QC team can match consignment to PO without surprises.
