For a city its size, Tiruppur packs an unusual concentration of export-grade manufacturing. The plywood demand splits across four broad sectors, and which one a buyer sits in changes what we recommend.
Knitwear and garment exports
The core belt — Mannarai, Kongu Nagar, Iduvai, Veerapandi, Palladam Road — is dense with knitwear units. T-shirts, polos, infantwear and athleisure ship in compressed bales, usually on 4-way entry pallets or lightweight plywood crates lined with polythene. The wood content per container is modest, but the plywood has to be moisture-resistant: humidity on the Bay of Bengal sea route can wreck a poorly chosen pack.
Hosiery and textile machinery
The SIPCOT Phase I and II estates host knitting-machine assemblers, dyeing-machine fabricators and circular-knitting makers. These exports are heavy point loads — a single machine can sit at 800–2,500 kg — so the crates step up to heavier packing-grade plywood (12 mm, 15 mm, 18 mm) over seasoned hardwood runners.
Dyeing, processing and finishing
The Perumanallur, Andipalayam and Mudalipalayam clusters handle wet processing. They are mostly local-load buyers — domestic dispatches of fabric rolls on pallets — and tend to use 6 mm to 10 mm commercial plywood for lighter wooden cases.
Engineering ancillaries on the Avinashi–Tiruppur corridor
Spinning-mill spares, compressor parts and electrical components from this stretch often need a sturdy mixed-load crate. Smaller-volume but higher-frequency orders.

Packing-grade ply, Okoume, sawn timber
Most Tiruppur enquiries fall into three product groups. Our packing-grade plywood is the workhorse, with rates that move with raw material; the snapshot below is for orientation and we issue a live PI on request.

All rates are ex-factory, GST and transport extra. Okoume plywood — used for premium export crates where a clean, light face is required — is quoted separately. We also ship sawn timber: jackwood hardwood runners at ₹400/cft (quarter-inch-minus tolerance) and rubberwood runners as per size. For SIPCOT machinery exporters, the typical bill of materials is an 18 mm floor + 12 mm walls + 50×75 mm hardwood runners + corner bracing.
Pallet sizes that work for the city
For garment exports out of Chennai and Tuticorin ports, the standard footprints we cut are 1200×1000 mm and 1100×1100 mm, 4-way entry, with a 12 mm packing-grade deck on rubberwood runners. For the GCC route, the 1200×800 mm Euro footprint is the more common ask.
Logistics
Kochi to Tiruppur — 190 km, a 5 to 7 hour haul
The route is straightforward. From our Perumbavoor loading point we run up NH-544 via Angamaly, Walayar, Coimbatore and Avinashi into Tiruppur — about 190 km. Loaded transit on a 32-foot full-body or a 22-foot SXL truck is typically 5–7 hours, depending on the Walayar check-post and Coimbatore bypass traffic. Most loads piggyback on Coimbatore-based transporters who already run the lane daily, so we rarely have to dedicate a vehicle. For smaller part-loads below 3 tonnes we consolidate with other Tamil Nadu deliveries and lead time goes to 2–3 days. For exporters with tight container-stuffing windows, we can hold a dispatch slot and confirm a truck the same day a PI is signed.
Choosing a grade
Which grade for which job
- Packing-grade commercial plywood (rubberwood core) — the right call for 80% of Tiruppur loads. Garment cases, fabric pallets, machinery sub-crates for the domestic and GCC routes. Best cost-per-sheet for honest, repeat-buy packing.
- Okoume-faced plywood — when the buyer's overseas customer specifies a clean, light, blemish-free face, typical for European garment buyers and premium machinery exports. Quoted on request.
- Shuttering ply — for site construction and infra contractors in and around Tiruppur (warehouse expansion, effluent-tank works). Not interchangeable with packing-grade; the resin system is different.
- BWR / BWP grade — for crates going by sea on the longer 35–45 day legs to West Africa and South America, where moisture cycling is severe.
The thickness-to-load rule we apply: under 500 kg point load, 10–12 mm is enough; 500–1,500 kg, step up to 15 mm walls and an 18 mm floor; above 1,500 kg, an 18 mm floor with 75 mm hardwood runners and corner bracing.

Do you supply ISPM-15 stamped crates ready-to-load?
We supply the plywood and sawn timber inputs at our Kochi end. ISPM-15 heat-treatment and IPPC stamping is done at the buyer's end or at a nominated fumigator in Tiruppur — most knitwear and machinery exporters already have a tied fumigator on the Avinashi Road belt. We can recommend known operators if needed.
What's the minimum order to make a truckload from Kochi worthwhile?
A standard 32-foot full-body lifts roughly 500–600 sheets of 8 mm packing ply, or about 350–400 sheets of 18 mm. For part-loads we consolidate with other Tamil Nadu deliveries; the minimum sensible part-load is around 50–100 sheets, with a 2–3 day lead time.
Can you hold inventory or run a scheduled monthly dispatch?
For repeat exporters in the SIPCOT belt placing 1–2 trucks a month, yes — we can lock a monthly dispatch slot and indexed pricing against our purchase rates. Walk us through the spec and volume and we will structure it on the PI.
