Plywood, bale-cases and pallets for Karur's home-textile exporters.
Karur sits at the centre of one of India's densest home-textiles export clusters — bedlinen, towels and made-ups headed to the US, EU and Gulf. We manufacture the bale-cases, export pallets and container dunnage that pack them, on a weekly lane from Perumbavoor our group has run since 1986.
The industrial picture
Home textiles, SIDCO/SIPCOT and bus-body
Karur's packaging demand splits across four overlapping pockets that buy plywood in different formats.
The home-textiles export belt
Concentrated around Thennilai Road, Andankoil East, Pasupathipalayam and the Karur–Erode Road, this is the heart of the bedlinen and terry-towel industry. Compressed fabric bales need plywood top/bottom caps and edge protectors; full-container shipments need 1140 × 1140 mm export pallets and 9 mm to 12 mm plywood load-floor.
SIDCO and SIPCOT estates
The SIDCO estate at Thalapatti and the SIPCOT complex at Pugalur house engineering, auto-component and chemical units. These plants need ISPM-15 stamped crates for heavier machinery exports, not just bale-grade ply.
Bus-body and automotive cluster
Karur has a long-standing bus-body building reputation, with workshops along the Karur–Trichy NH. They consume 18 mm and thicker shuttering and commercial plywood for internal panels, jigs and form-work.
Aravakurichi paper and packaging sub-cluster
The Aravakurichi–Kulithalai stretch carries paper mills and converters who blend corrugated outers with wooden pallets and bottoms for heavy loads. This is a mixed-material zone; we typically supply the wooden-pallet side, not the corrugated side.
What we ship
Packing-grade ply, Okoume, crates, pallets, dunnage
For bale capping, edge protectors and inner box construction, our MR / packing-grade ply is the default. Standard thickness ladder, ex-factory rates (GST and freight extra):
| Thickness | Typical use in Karur | Rate (₹/sq.ft) |
|---|---|---|
| 6 mm | Top/bottom caps on fabric bales | 24.00 |
| 8 mm | Light bale crates, partition boards | 28.00 |
| 10 mm | Medium crates, container side-lining | 31.50 |
| 12 mm | Container flooring, mid-weight crates | 33.50 |
| 15 mm | Heavy export crates, machinery boxes | 39.00 |
| 18 mm | Bus-body internals, form-work, pallet decks | 42.00 |
Sheet size standard 8 ft × 4 ft; we also cut to 7 × 4 ft and 6 × 3 ft for fabric-bale customers who want minimum trimming waste. Okoume face-veneer plywood is quoted on request for premium export crates. We supply ISPM-15 heat-treated and stamped crates and pallets from registered facilities — standard footprints to Tamil Nadu are 1200 × 800 mm (Euro), 1200 × 1000 mm (UK), 1140 × 1140 mm (container-optimised) and 1100 × 1100 mm (US / ISO). For dunnage we rip-cut 12 mm to 18 mm ply into 1220 mm strips for false-flooring, with 100 × 100 mm and 75 × 75 mm sawn-timber dunnage in rubberwood or jackwood. Jackwood runners are ₹400/cft (quarter-inch-minus tolerance); rubberwood runners priced by size.
Logistics
Kochi to Karur — 280 km, an overnight lane
The lane is roughly 280 km from Perumbavoor / Kochi to Karur via NH-544 (Salem road) and NH-83. A loaded trailer leaves the factory in the evening, clears the Walayar check-post, runs through Coimbatore and reaches Karur in 8 to 10 driving hours — most consignments unload by the next morning. We typically run full trailers (32 ft, ~800–1,000 sheets depending on thickness), 20-ft container trucks for ISPM-15 crate kits and mixed pallet loads, and part-loads via Coimbatore–Karur consolidators for smaller monthly off-takes. Because Karur is a regular lane for us, freight per sheet stays competitive — the trip is direct, the road is good, and the return leg often carries textiles back towards Cochin Port, which helps trucker pricing.
Choosing a grade
Which grade for which load
- Packing-grade (MR) plywood — when the crate is single-trip and port-to-port, you are capping or boxing fabric bales and light home-textile cartons, and budget per crate matters more than aesthetics.
- Okoume face-veneer plywood — when the end-customer sees the crate (premium brand exports), you need a lighter, cleaner-grain face, or the crate is for high-value machinery, automotive jigs or display goods.
- Shuttering / 18 mm commercial plywood — when the job is bus-body internals, jigs and fixtures or re-usable form-work, the crate must survive three-plus trips, or you are building pallet decks for heavy machinery exports.
FAQ
Common questions from Karur buyers
Do you supply ISPM-15 certified crates ready for export?
Yes. We work with registered heat-treatment facilities and stamp crates with the IPPC mark before dispatch to Karur. Documentation accompanies the consignment so it clears customs without query at Tuticorin or Chennai.
What is the minimum order quantity to Karur?
Economical MOQ is a part-load of about 200 sheets or a full pallet-kit consignment. We also consolidate smaller monthly off-takes for Aravakurichi and Karur-town customers via our Coimbatore part-load partner.
Can you cut sheets to non-standard sizes for fabric-bale caps?
Yes. We cut to size at the factory before loading — the Karur bedlinen and terry-towel sector regularly takes 1200 × 600 mm and 1500 × 750 mm caps to suit specific bale presses. The cutting charge is nominal and reduces wastage at your end.
