Plywood, crates and pallets for Madurai's textile, chemical and auto-ancillary belts.
Madurai's packing demand is unusually mixed — heavy textile machinery, chemical drums, auto castings, granite slabs. We manufacture the packing-grade plywood, crates and pallets each one needs, trucked down a same-night lane from Perumbavoor our group has run since 1986.
The industrial picture
Four adjoining ecosystems, four packs
For a packing supplier, Madurai is best read as four adjoining ecosystems rather than one city.
Textile and textile-machinery belt
The spinning, weaving and dyeing concentration runs through Madurai, Dindigul and into Tiruppur. Mills under modernisation import or transfer ring frames, autoconers, draw-frames and warp-prep machinery — movements that need heavy A-grade plywood crates with internal cleating, plus pallets that survive forklift handling at both ends.
Chemical, dye and pharma intermediates
Tirumangalam, the Kappalur SIDCO estate and the units along the Madurai–Tuticorin corridor work on chemical intermediates, dyes and a growing fine-chemicals base. Drum packs, fibre-drum cartons and palletised IBC consolidations all need compliant pallets and shuttering-quality plywood as drum dividers and top caps.
Auto-ancillary and rubber components
The Madurai–Sivagangai stretch hosts brake-assembly units, foundries, rubber-moulding plants and tier-2 ancillaries. Heavy castings move on bottom-deck pallets with reinforced load spreaders; smaller components ride in nailed plywood cases with internal partitioning.
Granite, food processing and FMCG
Polished granite slabs for Europe and the Middle East go on heavy A-frame skids with plywood facing. Around the city, an FMCG and edible-oils distribution layer keeps demand for reusable pallets steady year-round.
What we ship
Packing-grade ply, crates, pallets, flooring
Three product families cover most Madurai despatches: packing-grade sheets for case-makers, finished crates and pallets to spec, and container flooring for fleet operators.
| Thickness | Typical sheet size | Common Madurai use |
|---|---|---|
| 6 mm | 8 × 4 ft | Light component cases, drum top-caps |
| 8 mm | 8 × 4 ft | Garment cartons, FMCG outer cases |
| 12 mm | 8 × 4 ft | Standard textile-machinery crate walls |
| 16–18 mm | 8 × 4 ft | Heavy machinery cases, granite A-frames |
All rates are ex-factory; GST and transport extra. Finished crates are quoted by external dimension, gross load and stacking factor — the most common Madurai builds are 1200 × 1000 mm Euro pallets for chemical drums, 1100 × 1100 mm export pallets for the South-East Asia textile trade, and heavy custom cases up to 4.5 m long for ring-frame movements. All export-bound timber is heat-treated and stencil-marked at the yard. For reefer and dry-van rebuilds, we supply 28 mm container-flooring plywood with WBP phenolic glue and an anti-skid wire-mesh face in standard 2440 × 1220 mm sheets. Okoume-faced ply is quoted separately.
Logistics
Kochi to Madurai — 250 km, a same-night run
The lane is short and well-mapped. The standard route is Ernakulam to Madurai via Munnar–Theni on NH-85 (the shorter line, ~250 km, used when the ghat section is clear), or via Coimbatore–Dindigul on NH-544 / NH-44 (longer at ~400 km but safer for oversized loads). A single-axle truck dispatched from Perumbavoor before evening typically reaches a Madurai unloading point in 6–8 hours; a 32-foot multi-axle is closer to 9–10 hours. For chemical-belt buyers timing drum loads to Tuticorin sailings, the triangulated routing — Kochi yard to Madurai pallet handover to Tuticorin port-side stuffing — is usually the cheapest landed cost.
Choosing a grade
Packing grade, Okoume or shuttering
Madurai's load profile is mostly heavy industrial, so the default is hardwood-core packing-grade plywood.
- Packing-grade hardwood core (commercial / rubberwood) — default for textile-machinery crates, auto-ancillary cases, granite skids and FMCG pallets. Best cost-to-strength for one-way and short-cycle reuse.
- Okoume — consider only when the importing country's regime or the consignee's contract requires a lighter, uniform-density face for marine packing of premium goods. Higher cost; rarely the right call for chemical drums or castings.
- Shuttering ply (film-faced) — the answer when the buyer is actually a construction contractor pouring slabs for a Madurai factory expansion, an IT park or a flyover. Not a packing material.
FAQ
Common questions from Madurai buyers
Do you supply ISPM-15 heat-treated pallets for export?
Yes. All export-grade pallets and cases are heat-treated and stencil-marked at the yard before dispatch; the certificate accompanies the truck. This is the standard for chemical, dye and textile-machinery consignees shipping out of Tuticorin, Chennai or Cochin.
What is the minimum order quantity to Madurai?
The lane is efficient from one part-load (around 4–5 tonnes) upwards. Full-truck loads price best per square foot. We will consolidate smaller orders into a part-load slot when scheduling allows.
Can you cut pallet components for in-house assembly?
Yes. Many auto-ancillary and chemical units in the Kappalur and Sivagangai belts run their own pallet assembly. We supply cut-to-size deck boards, stringers and blocks ready for nailing — typically 8–12% off the landed cost of finished pallets.
