ISPM-15 Treatment Choices for Export Packaging

Identify which packaging components require treatment evidence.

A treatment choice starts with the packaging construction and destination. Confirm whether the shipment contains regulated solid wood, what the importing authority requires, and which authorised provider can supply the agreed treatment and marking.

Plywood and solid wood are different checks

Processed plywood is outside the ISPM 15 treatment requirement, but raw-wood runners, blocks or framing may bring a mixed case into scope. Use the plywood and solid-wood checklist and identify every component on the drawing.

HT and methyl bromide are not the entire framework

HT identifies conventional heat treatment and MB identifies methyl bromide fumigation. Official DAFF guidance also lists DH for dielectric heating and SF for sulphuryl fluoride fumigation. A code being listed does not establish that a particular method or provider is accepted for your destination and shipment.

The authorised provider must apply the required process and marking. This guide does not supply treatment schedules or recommend operating a fumigation process yourself. Ask the importer to check current destination conditions before selecting an option.

Questions to resolve before ordering

  • Which components are regulated, and what bark or cleanliness conditions apply?
  • Which treatment and provider are accepted for the actual destination?
  • How will treatment, handling, assembly and marking be coordinated?
  • What evidence and documents are included in the quotation?
  • How will the packaging be stored and inspected before loading?

Neither a treatment mark nor a plywood exemption guarantees clearance or continuing protection from later contamination. For used or repaired packaging, also review marks, reuse and repair.

Request a defined packaging proposal

Send the case or pallet drawing, materials, quantity and destination. The quotation confirms supply scope, required treatment and marking through the authorised provider, any certificate, price and timing. Send the enquiry details.
