Packing plywood, crates and pallets for Karimnagar's silver, granite and agri exporters
We manufacture packing-grade plywood, export crates and pallets to drawing, dispatched from our Perumbavoor operation. Our group has run plywood manufacturing there since 1986, and the 1,400 km Kochi-to-Karimnagar lane is one we move on a clean three-to-four-day clock.
The industrial picture
Four clusters, four packing requirements
Karimnagar sits in the middle of a state that exports two things most people overlook when they think of plywood demand: silver filigree handicrafts that travel half the world, and granite blocks weighing fifteen tonnes each. Both move in wooden crates. Add the agri-processing belt around Jagtial Road and the spinning mills feeding the broader Telangana cotton chain, and you have a city that quietly burns through several truckloads of packing-grade plywood every week. Karimnagar is not one cluster — it is four overlapping ones, and each has a different packing requirement.
Silver filigree and handicrafts
The Karimnagar silver filigree GI tag covers an export-oriented craft cluster that has been ramping up under the state's handicraft promotion push. The pieces themselves are light, but they are fragile, high-value, and almost always crated for air cargo or premium sea LCL. The need here is thin-section packing-grade plywood — typically 6 mm and 8 mm — used for inner trays, partitions and the outer shell of small export crates. Tolerance for splintering is low: the buyer does not want to open a crate at the destination and find a face veneer that has chipped against a delicate piece.
Granite blocks and tiles
The belt running through Karimnagar, Peddapalli and out toward Ramagundam is a granite-quarrying and processing zone. Black galaxy, tan brown and silver pearl varieties move through here. Granite blocks are loaded directly onto trucks for inland movement, but tile consignments destined for the Middle East and the UK leave in heavy crates — typically 18 mm packing-grade plywood walls with hardwood runners underneath, sized to fit a 20-ft container deck. Container flooring replacement plywood is a related ask from logistics yards that refurbish boxes.
Agri-processing and cold storage
Rice mills around Jagtial Road and turmeric processors closer to Sircilla generate a steady requirement for pallets — both EUR-pattern 1200×800 mm and the Indian 1200×1000 mm. Most are heat-treated to ISPM-15 if the consignment heads to a port. The volumes are not flashy, but they are predictable, which matters more for logistics planning than a one-time large order.
Telangana spinning and engineering
The Karimnagar–Warangal corridor pulls in spinning-mill machinery, transformers and a smaller flow of pump-set and motor manufacturing into the nearby industrial estates. Heavy engineering goods need shuttering-grade or BWR plywood for the crate base where direct contact with steel skids occurs, plus 12 mm packing grade for the side walls.
What we ship
Matched to the load, not the brochure
Material choice should follow the load. The most common items in a Karimnagar dispatch are:
- 6 mm and 8 mm packing-grade plywood — handicraft inner partitions, light export crates, dunnage sheets.
- 12 mm packing-grade plywood — the workhorse thickness for medium engineering goods and general-purpose crates.
- 18 mm packing-grade plywood — the heavy side panel for granite tile crates and machinery boxes.
- Hardwood runners and sawn timber — jackwood and rubberwood, supplied in standard runner sizes for crate skids and pallet stringers.
- ISPM-15 heat-treated pallets — assembled to EUR or Indian dimensions, stamped where the consignment is export-bound.
- Container flooring plywood — 28 mm apitong-equivalent boards for shipping-container floor refurbishment.
Where the end-customer is an export house dealing in a premium-finish product — silver, lacquered wood, certain artisanal categories — an Okoume face veneer is worth specifying on the visible outer crate. The face is cleaner, the panel weighs less per square foot, and the crate looks like it belongs to the cargo inside. Okoume is a face-veneer option on our packing and BWR grades, not a separate grade.
Logistics
The Kochi → Karimnagar lane
The lane is roughly 1,400 km by road. We dispatch from the Perumbavoor cluster, and the typical route runs Kochi → Salem → Bengaluru → Anantapur → Kurnool → Hyderabad → Karimnagar. Transit time for a full truck is three to four days door-to-door, depending on the Bengaluru bypass and the Hyderabad inner-ring crossing.
One full 22-ft truck carries close to 1,000–1,200 sheets of 12 mm 8×4 packing-grade plywood, depending on density. For mixed loads — say, 600 sheets of 18 mm plus pallets — load planning matters more, because granite-belt buyers usually want everything stacked so the heaviest material comes off the truck first at site.
Buyers who can consolidate a full-truck order get the cleanest landed cost. Part-loads are workable but ride on shared transport and arrive on a slower clock — typically five to six days. Pallets bound for a port are heat-treated and ISPM-15 stamped at dispatch, with the IPPC mark applied to every certified piece. For very large recurring requirements, a monthly indent against a price-protected quotation is the most economical structure.
Choosing a grade
A field guide for Karimnagar loads
A short reference for buyers picking material:
| End use | Recommended grade | Typical thickness |
|---|---|---|
| Silver filigree export crate (light, premium) | Packing grade, optional Okoume face | 6–8 mm shell, 12 mm base |
| Granite tile export crate | Packing grade with hardwood runners | 18 mm walls, hardwood base |
| Heavy machinery / transformer crate | BWR or shuttering-grade base, packing-grade walls | 18 mm base, 12 mm walls |
| Rice / turmeric pallet (export) | Sawn hardwood, ISPM-15 stamp | 1200×1000 or 1200×800 mm |
| Container floor refurbishment | Apitong-equivalent flooring ply | 28 mm |
Shuttering ply has a place where the crate base will see direct weather exposure during loading at the granite yard or on an open quarry dispatch — the BWR glue line stands up better to monsoon turnaround. For dry, indoor handicraft packing, paying for shuttering grade is unnecessary.
FAQ
Common questions from Karimnagar buyers
Can you supply ISPM-15 certified pallets for direct export from Karimnagar?
Yes. Heat-treatment and stamping are arranged at dispatch, and the IPPC mark is applied to every certified piece. Share the destination country and approximate monthly count, and we will confirm the right specification.
What is the minimum order quantity?
For full economic landed cost in Karimnagar, a single-truck load (roughly 1,000 sheets equivalent or a mixed full truck) is the cleanest structure. Smaller part-load orders are possible but ride on shared transport and a slightly higher per-sheet freight component.
Do you hold buffer stock or make to order?
Both. Standard packing-grade thicknesses (6 mm, 8 mm, 12 mm, 18 mm) are held against group production. Okoume-faced panels, sized pallets and crate kits are made to the buyer's specification with a short lead time, typically one to two weeks plus dispatch.

Tell us the four data points
Tell us the destination yard in Karimnagar, the thickness mix, the monthly indent volume, and whether you need ISPM-15 stamping. We will come back with an ex-Kochi rate, a landed-in-Karimnagar rate, and a delivery window. The fastest route is to request a quote with those four points in hand. For technical spec sheets, grade comparisons and the full thickness chart, the resource hub has the current reference material. Manufactured in Perumbavoor by our group since 1986, our facilities can structure pricing against an annual offtake rather than a one-off enquiry — useful for buyers in the granite belt and the handicraft cluster who move different volumes through the year.
