Packing plywood, crates and pallets for Panipat's textile, refinery and power belt

Panipat runs on load-heavy verticals that all consume wood: textile bales, refinery spares and thermal-corridor heavy gear. We manufacture the packing-grade plywood, crates and pallets these loads need in Perumbavoor, where our group has run operations since 1986, and dispatch them up the 2,300 km lane from Kochi.

The industrial picture

A concentrated packaging cluster that few southern manufacturers service

Panipat is one of north India's busiest packaging-consumption clusters, yet very few south-Indian operations actively service it. The city's economy turns on three load-heavy verticals — cotton and woollen textiles, a large refinery on its western edge, and the thermal-power corridor a short haul east — and every one of them needs wood. Bales need ply caps, refinery spares need export crates, turbine consumables travel on hardwood pallets.

The industrial footprint is unusually tight. Within roughly 15 km of the city centre you find four distinct buyer pockets, each with its own packing rhythm:

  • The Panipat textile cluster and HSIIDC Sector 29 — the "handloom city" power-loom belt: bedsheets, blankets, furnishings, towels, durries. Bale-pressing is continuous, and the export-grade fraction is the part that actually consumes plywood, since compressed bales need a top-and-bottom ply cap plus end boards to survive sea travel.
  • The old industrial area and Sector 25 HSIIDC — the woollen and shoddy-yarn mills concentrated around the GT Road, plus recycled-textile units shipping to Africa and the Middle East. Volumes are smaller per consignment but the frequency is high.
  • The refinery and petrochemical complex on the Baholi side — a continuous flow of MRO spares, pumps, valves and exchanger tubes that need close-tolerance crates, often heat-treated and stamped for re-export of warranty returns.
  • The thermal-power station at Asan Khurd and its ancillary belt — boiler-tube bundles, coal-handling spares, transformer accessories. Loads are heavy, point-loaded, and need hardwood-bottom pallets rather than soft-pine substitutes.

Add the National Highway 44 logistics corridor that puts Panipat 90 km from ICD Tughlakabad and 100 km from ICD Sonipat, and you have a city pushing a steady volume of export-spec packaging through its gates every week.

What we ship

Three product families cover most of the Kochi–Panipat lane

Roughly 95% of what moves on this lane falls into three lines, all manufactured in our facilities to a consistent core specification.

1. Packing-grade plywood (the workhorse)

This is the bulk line for textile-bale capping, crate side-panels and reusable internal partitions.

ThicknessTypical use in PanipatStandard size
6 mmBale top/bottom caps, light separators8' x 4'
8 mmInternal crate partitions, blanket-bale tops8' x 4'
12 mmCrate sides for refinery spares, durry bale ends8' x 4'
16–18 mmCrate lids carrying loose top-stack load8' x 4'

Custom-cut sizes (4' x 3', 6' x 3', off-square panels for cylindrical equipment) are run to order in the same despatch. For high-value or moisture-sensitive cargo, the faces can be specified in Okoume — a face-veneer option on the packing and BWR grades that gives a tighter surface and better screw-holding.

2. Wooden crates and export cases

For the refinery belt and any Panipat exporter pushing engineering goods out through Mundra, Pipavav or Nhava Sheva, we build closed and open-frame crates to ISPM-15 specification — heat-treated timber, HT stamp, fumigation certificate where the destination requires it. The standard build uses a hardwood skid base, plywood sheathing on the four walls and lid, and steel strapping. Internal blocking and load-spreaders are designed against the actual equipment dimensions, not a generic template.

3. Pallets and container flooring

Two-way and four-way entry pallets in standard 1200 x 1000 mm and 1200 x 800 mm footprints, plus custom sizes for textile-bale conveyors. For the power corridor and the heavier refinery flows we run a hardwood-bottom pallet that handles point loads above 1.5 tonnes without crushing. Container-flooring plywood (BWP-bonded, 18–21 mm) is supplied for export box-fabricators in the Sonipat–Panipat belt who refurbish 20' and 40' containers for road use.

Logistics

Kochi to Panipat: a 2,300 km lane that still works on price

The straight-line lane from our Perumbavoor/Kochi dispatch point to Panipat is approximately 2,300 km by road. The realistic options:

  • Direct trailer (32-ft single-axle or 40-ft multi-axle) — 6 to 8 days transit door-to-door, depending on driver changes and the Maharashtra–MP corridor. Best for full-load orders of 18–22 tonnes (roughly 9,000–11,000 sq.ft of 18 mm plywood, or one full container-equivalent of crates).
  • Part-load via Delhi NCR consolidators — 8 to 10 days, useful for trial orders or 3–5 tonne shipments. Final-mile delivery from a Delhi or Sonipat hub to Panipat is short.
  • Coastal plus road combination — for very large volumes, container by sea to Mundra Port (~5 days) plus 1,150 km trucking to Panipat. Competitive when the order touches 40+ tonnes.

Prices are quoted ex-Kochi by default; GST and freight are itemised separately so the buyer can compare against local Yamunanagar-supplied plywood on a clean apples-to-apples basis. For most textile-bale and crate-grade orders above 8,000 sq.ft, the landed Panipat cost still works in our favour, because the input timber and core-stock economics in Kerala are different from those in the Yamunanagar belt.

Choosing a grade

Which grade for which Panipat load

A short field guide for the Panipat buyer:

  • Cotton-textile and woollen bales for domestic dispatch — packing-grade ply in 6–8 mm caps is sufficient. No need to over-spec.
  • Export bales going through Mundra or Nhava Sheva — packing-grade ply, but step up to 8–12 mm and pair with ISPM-15 hardwood end-frames if the buyer's bill of lading calls for it.
  • Refinery spares, valves, pump assemblies — a crate build with 12–16 mm packing-grade sides and a hardwood skid; for high-value or moisture-sensitive cargo, upgrade the faces to Okoume for a tighter surface and better screw-holding.
  • Heavy power-corridor spares and transformer accessories — pallets must be hardwood-bottom, never soft-pine. Crate lids in 18 mm packing-grade or BWR if the load sits in an outdoor yard for weeks before despatch.
  • Shuttering ply — relevant when Panipat construction buyers (commercial real estate along GT Road, refinery shutdown civil works) need film-faced ply for repeat-use formwork. A different product line, quoted separately.

FAQ

Common Panipat buyer questions

Do you supply directly to Panipat or only through a Delhi dealer?

Direct from our Kochi despatch point. The invoice is from Cochin Wood Industries to the Panipat buyer with the buyer's GSTIN. No interim layer.

Can you do ISPM-15 fumigation and HT stamping for export crates?

Yes. Crates can be supplied with HT-stamped timber and the accompanying fumigation certificate where the destination country requires it. Specify the destination at the quote stage so the right treatment route is chosen.

What is the minimum order that makes the Kochi lane economical?

Roughly 4–5 tonnes for part-load economics, 18–22 tonnes for a clean full-truck rate. Smaller pilot orders are fine — we will quote them honestly, including the part-load premium, so you can compare against local sources before committing to a larger lane.
