Packing-grade plywood, crates and pallets for Indore's auto, pharma and engineering exporters
We manufacture the packing-grade plywood, export crates, pallets and container flooring that move heavy engineering and pharma cargo out of the Indore-Pithampur belt. Built to drawing in Perumbavoor, where our group has run plywood operations since 1986, and trucked direct on the Kochi-Indore lane.
The industrial picture
Indore is central India's most demanding packing lane
Indore is the commercial spine of Madhya Pradesh and the staging post for one of central India's busiest industrial corridors. The city itself handles head offices, finance and distribution; the heavy work happens 25-30 km south-west at Pithampur, where auto and pharma plants run shift patterns that demand serious volumes of export-quality packing material. For us, Indore is a steady, technically demanding lane: orders skew toward heavy-engineering crates, pharma export cases that have to clear phytosanitary checks, and pallet stock for repeat use inside large plants. The demand profile breaks into a few clear segments, and each one drives slightly different plywood and crating choices.
Pithampur auto and engineering belt
Pithampur Industrial Area is split into Sector 1, Sector 2 and Sector 3, plus the newer SEZ phase. It hosts heavy-vehicle, tractor, off-highway and tier-one component plants — the kind of operations that crate transmission housings, axle assemblies, gearboxes and pressed-steel sub-assemblies for both domestic dispatch and CKD export. These loads are dense and sharp-cornered, so the crate has to be engineered around weight rather than volume: thicker bottoms, internal bracing, screwed-and-cleated panels rather than nailed corrugated.
Pharma cluster (Pithampur and Sanwer Road)
Indore's pharma footprint is large — formulations plants and API units around Pithampur and the Sanwer Road industrial belt — and almost every export carton eventually rides inside a wooden master crate or on a heat-treated pallet. ISPM-15 compliance is non-negotiable for those flows, so the wood has to come with traceable heat-treatment marks and the moisture content has to be controlled.
Food, FMCG and SEZ flows
The Crystal IT Park and the SEZ at Pithampur add a steady trickle of electronics, IT-hardware and processed-food export packing. These cartons want clean, splinter-free internal surfaces and lighter pallets — a slightly different spec sheet from the heavy-engineering side.
What we ship
What goes onto trucks bound for the Indore-Pithampur belt
The mix is fairly consistent. We supply finished wooden crates and pallets built to drawing, raw packing-grade plywood for buyers who run their own carpentry shops, container flooring sheets, and sawn-timber runners and battens where the customer wants to do their own assembly.
Packing-grade plywood — sizes and thicknesses
Our packing range is built around the standard 8 ft x 4 ft sheet, with the thicknesses Indore buyers ask for most often listed below. Rates are ex-factory Perumbavoor; GST and transport extra.
| Thickness | Typical use in Indore loads | Ex-factory rate (₹/sq.ft) |
|---|---|---|
| 6 mm | Light cartons, internal partitions, pharma master cases | 24.00 |
| 8 mm | FMCG and electronics export crates | 28.00 |
| 10 mm | Medium-weight component crates | 31.50 |
| 12 mm | Auto-component crates, pallet decks | 33.50 |
| 15 mm | Heavy-engineering crate panels | 39.00 |
| 18 mm | Container flooring, heavy crate bottoms, machine bases | 42.00 |
Crate construction
For Pithampur-bound crates we typically build a hardwood frame of 50x50 mm or 75x75 mm runners, sheath the sides in 10-12 mm packing ply, and use 15-18 mm on the floor and load-bearing top. Corners are cleated and screwed. Where the cargo is export-bound, we use heat-treated timber stamped with the IPPC mark so the consignment clears phytosanitary checks at the destination port without delay.
Pallets
The two pallet footprints we run most often into the Indore belt are the Indian 1200 x 1000 mm and the Euro 1200 x 800 mm, both four-way entry. Deck boards are 12-15 mm packing ply or sawn jackwood; runners are 75 mm hardwood. Heat treatment is offered as a standard option.
Container flooring
Plants doing CKD or part-load exports out of Indore occasionally need replacement container-flooring sheets — typically 18 mm full sheets, hardwood face, sized to fit standard 20-ft and 40-ft container floor plans. We supply those in batches alongside the regular packing stock.
Logistics
Kochi to Indore — the lane
The straight-line road distance from our Perumbavoor base to Indore is roughly 1,700 km. Trucks typically run via Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Nagpur and then north-west through Khandwa into Indore, or alternatively up the west coast through Pune and Dhule. Either route is a 4-5 day transit for full truck loads, depending on the season and the driver pair.
For full-truck quantities the lane is competitive on road — we move 32-ft single-axle and multi-axle trailers carrying anywhere from 20 to 28 tonnes of finished crates or raw plywood per trip. For part loads, consolidating with other northbound cargo through the Bengaluru or Hyderabad hubs usually works out cheaper than booking a dedicated vehicle. Where the consignment is genuinely small, parcel-truck operators on the Kochi-Indore route quote per quintal and run weekly.
Lead time, door to door, is usually 5-7 days from PO confirmation for stocked specs and 10-12 days where the crates have to be built to drawing. For ISPM-15 export consignments, the IPPC-stamped heat-treatment certificate travels with the dispatch documents.
Choosing a grade
Which grade for which Indore load
Our standard MR-Packing grade
This is the right call for the bulk of Indore's auto-component and pharma export crating. It is a phenol-bonded packing-grade plywood with a hardwood core, dimensionally stable, and priced to take the abuse that crating timber sees in a working warehouse.
Okoume face on packing or BWR
Where the buyer wants a cleaner face — pharma exports going to GCC or European customers, or high-end machinery crates where appearance matters — we offer Okoume as a face-veneer option on the packing and BWR grades. It is not its own grade; it is a face choice. Pricing is on request because the veneer market moves.
Shuttering ply
For Indore buyers in the construction-formwork space — metro extensions, real-estate towers, infrastructure projects around the AB Road and the Super Corridor — we supply 12 mm film-faced shuttering ply rated for 8-10 pours. It is a different product line from packing ply and is quoted separately.
FAQ
Common questions on the Indore lane
Do you supply heat-treated pallets with IPPC marks?
Yes. Heat treatment to ISPM-15 standard with the IPPC stamp is a standard option on both crates and pallets. The certificate accompanies the dispatch documents.
What is the minimum order quantity for Indore?
For raw packing-grade plywood, a single truckload (roughly 600-800 sheets depending on thickness) is the most economical unit. For finished crates and pallets we quote from 50 units upward, with sharper rates above 200.
How are rates quoted?
All rates are ex-factory Perumbavoor unless otherwise stated. GST and road freight to Indore are extra and shown as separate lines on the proforma so the buyer can see the breakdown clearly.
