Why Pithampur is a serious plywood-consuming belt
Pithampur — the Detroit of Central India — runs on metal that has to travel. Commercial vehicle chassis, agricultural machinery, diesel engines and tier-1 castings move out of this Madhya Pradesh industrial belt every day, and almost all of them ride inside a wooden case, on a wooden pallet, or over a plywood-floored container.
The town sits about 30 km southwest of Indore on NH-3 and is run as a planned cluster by MPAKVN (Madhya Pradesh Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam, Indore). It is laid out in four developed sectors — Sector 1, Sector 2, Sector 3 and the newer Sector 7 — plus the Pithampur Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ). The mix of tenants is what makes the packaging demand interesting: heavy commercial vehicles, tractors, off-road equipment, engines, auto components, pharma capital equipment and food-processing machinery.
The industrial sub-belts that drive plywood demand
- Commercial vehicle and tractor OEMs — major truck, bus and tractor plants run in Pithampur. CKD (Completely Knocked Down) and SKD shipments of chassis aggregates and tractor assemblies are crated for export and inter-plant movement.
- Diesel engines and power systems — engine and large genset enclosure makers in the cluster need heavy-duty crates with rebated corners and lifting skids.
- Tier-1 auto components — castings, forgings, transmissions, axles, sheet-metal panels and bumpers. These move on pallets between Pithampur and assembly plants in Pune, Chennai, Lucknow and overseas.

Standard sheet size is 8' x 4'. We also cut to size where the case-shop wants pre-sized blanks to reduce wastage. Face veneer options on this grade are commercial hardwood and Gurjan; Okoume face is available on request for export-grade aesthetics.
Wooden cases and CKD crates
For the heavy commercial vehicle and tractor lines in Sector 1 and Sector 3, the typical case is a plywood-clad pinewood or hardwood frame, with a 12 mm or 15 mm packing-ply skin, runners on the base, and ISPM-15 stamped softwood for any solid-wood members. We build to drawing — load weight, lashing points, fork-pocket spacing, internal cradles and foam profiling. Where the OEM has a packaging engineer's spec sheet, we work directly off that.
Pallets
Common pallet sizes for the Pithampur auto belt:
- 1200 x 1000 mm — the ISO/euro-adjacent standard for component movement.
- 1200 x 800 mm — Euro pallet, where the consignee is in Europe.
- 1100 x 1100 mm — common for Japanese and South-East Asian OEM lines.

Container flooring and CFS work
18 mm BWR plywood with phenolic glue is the working spec for container re-flooring jobs at the ICDs around Indore. We supply sheet stock or pre-cut planks to the CFS contractors.
Logistics
Kochi to Pithampur — the logistics picture
Pithampur is roughly 1,650–1,700 km by road from our Perumbavoor base near Kochi. Trucks run via NH-544 / NH-44 through Salem, the Bengaluru bypass, Hubballi and Pune, then NH-3 / NH-52 through Dhule and Indore to Pithampur. Single-driver transit is typically 4–5 days; double-driver 3 days for time-critical loads.
For most packing-grade plywood orders the economics favour direct road from Perumbavoor — a 32-foot multi-axle SXL carries roughly 22–24 tonnes of plywood, which is around 950–1,050 sheets of 12 mm depending on density. Where the customer wants a smaller drop and the freight per sheet is sensitive, we consolidate loads to Indore CFS and arrange last-mile drops to Sector 1, 2, 3 or 7. For Okoume export-grade lots we can also ship FOB Cochin if the consignee is moving the finished crate overseas from a different port — that decision is usually driven by who controls the export leg.

Which grade for which Pithampur load
Use MR Packing grade when
- The case is moving domestic — Pune, Chennai, Lucknow, Jamshedpur.
- The voyage, if any, is short (UAE, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh).
- Cost per sheet matters and the case will be opened once and discarded.
Use BWR / phenolic-bonded plywood when
- The crate is going on a long sea voyage — Europe, US, West Africa, Latin America.
- The case will sit on a port apron or open yard for extended periods.
- Container re-flooring or repeated-use cradles.
Use an Okoume face when
- The end customer is overseas and case appearance is part of brand presentation — premium agricultural machinery, defence equipment, high-end engines.
- Light-weight case construction is preferred for air freight or weight-sensitive sea freight.
Use shuttering ply when
- The buyer is a civil contractor working on a Pithampur factory shed, MPAKVN infrastructure or warehouse expansion — not a packaging use, but a recurring Pithampur demand we serve from the same stock.

Yes. The plywood skin is BIS-grade; the solid-wood frame and runners are heat-treated and ISPM-15 stamped before despatch. We co-ordinate the heat treatment through approved facilities and send the case to the OEM's stuffing yard in Pithampur ready to load.
Do you take partial loads or only full trucks?
Both. Full truckload (FTL) from Perumbavoor direct to Pithampur is the cheapest per sheet. For smaller orders we consolidate at the Indore CFS hub and last-mile to the consignee, or piggyback on an existing Pithampur load — ask when you request the quote.
