Packing plywood, crates and pallets for Agra's footwear, leather and marble-handicraft exporters
We manufacture the packing-grade plywood, made-to-spec crates and pallets that box, brace and palletise Agra's export freight. Manufactured in Perumbavoor by our group since 1986, dispatched direct on the Kochi-to-Agra lane with no North India distributor layer.
The industrial picture
Four export clusters, one packing brief
Agra's freight bill writes itself: the world's second-largest footwear cluster, a leather-goods belt shipping to Europe and the GCC, and a marble inlay handicraft trade that moves fragile, high-value stone across continents. Every one of those flows ends the same way — boxed, crated, palletised and lashed inside a container. That is the part of Agra's economy we sit inside. Get the cluster right and the plywood spec almost picks itself.
Footwear belt (Hing ki Mandi, Sikandra, EPIP Shastripuram)
Agra carries an outsized share of India's footwear output and is widely cited as the country's second-largest footwear hub. Production runs from the dense Hing ki Mandi cluster through the Sikandra industrial area to the EPIP (Export Promotion Industrial Park) at Shastripuram, with larger exporters spread across the Agra–Mathura belt. The packing brief is high-volume, low-individual-weight cartons: shoes go out in inner cartons stacked into masters, masters onto pallets, pallets stuffed into 20-ft or 40-ft containers bound for JNPT/Nhava Sheva or, for GCC moves, sometimes Mundra Port.
Leather goods and tanneries (Nunhai, trans-Yamuna Agra)
Adjacent to the footwear belt, leather goods and small-leather manufacturing run their own packing line — wallets, belts, bags. Cartons are smaller and lighter than footwear masters, but volumes per consolidation are large and the buyer is usually the same exporter who needs the bigger footwear pack.
Marble inlay and handicraft (Tajganj, Kinari Bazaar, Fatehabad Road)
The Pietra Dura marble inlay trade is the opposite problem: low units, very high value, very fragile, often awkward shapes. Tabletops, plaques, decorative panels, the occasional architectural piece. This is custom crating — bespoke wooden cases, internal bracing, sometimes corner protection and shock indicators. The plywood spec is unforgiving: the case has to hold the piece through a multi-modal journey without flexing.
Engineering and auto-component spillover
Agra's industrial estates also house engineering and auto-ancillary units, and the wider Agra–Mathura–Aligarh axis pulls in foundry and lock-hardware buyers. For these we see standard heavy-engineering crating: thicker ply, framed sides, and heat-treated pallets for sea export.
What we ship
Four product lines for the Agra buyer base
We are a plywood manufacturer, supplying Agra across four lines from our facilities in Perumbavoor. The product list:
Packing-grade plywood (commercial / rubberwood)
Our packing range covers 6 mm to 18 mm in standard 8x4 ft sheets, with intermediate stops at 8, 10, 12, 14, 15 and 16 mm. For Agra footwear and leather exporters the typical pull is 8 mm and 10 mm — light enough to keep the carton tare down, stiff enough to survive stacking. Marble handicraft crating usually steps up to 12 mm or 18 mm for the side panels and base. We hold MR (moisture resistant) as the default for the packing line; for monsoon-window shipments or sea-export crates we move buyers to our BWR grade. Okoume is available as a clean blonde face veneer on the packing and BWR grades where a buyer's QA wants it.
Made-to-spec wooden crates and cases
Bespoke crating is built from our packing ply plus jackwood or rubberwood runners. Jackwood runs ₹400/cft at quarter-inch-minus tolerance; rubberwood runners price as per size. For the marble inlay trade we build framed cases with internal cleating and corner blocks; for footwear and leather we more often supply flat-pack ply sheets the exporter's in-house carpenters convert to cases on site.
Pallets, including ISPM-15 compliant
Standard four-way entry pallets in 1200x1000, 1200x800 (euro) and custom sizes. ISPM-15 heat-treatment stamping is mandatory for sea-export pallets bound for most jurisdictions; we coordinate it through our packing-line operation in Kerala and ship pre-stamped where the buyer needs it.
Container flooring
Heavy-duty plywood flooring for container repair and reefer rebuilds — typically 18 mm BWR or marine-grade, hardwood-faced, stepping to 28 mm for full container floor replacements. This is a smaller flow into Agra than the packing line but shows up periodically through CHA-linked rebuild yards.
| Thickness | Typical Agra use | Default grade |
|---|---|---|
| 8 mm | Footwear / leather master cartons | MR packing |
| 10 mm | Heavier master cartons, light crates | MR packing |
| 12 mm | Marble case sides, engineering sides | MR / BWR |
| 18 mm | Crate bases, engineering floors | BWR |
| 28 mm | Container floor replacement | BWR / marine, hardwood-faced |
Logistics
The Kochi-to-Agra lane
The road distance from Kochi/Ernakulam to Agra is roughly 2,300 km via NH-44 and the Mumbai–Agra corridor. Typical full-truckload transit is 5 to 7 days door-to-door, depending on driver pairing and checkpoint delays through Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Sample lane economics:
| Mode | Transit | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Full truckload (32-ft / 22-ton) | 5–7 days | Steady packing-line buyer, repeat dispatch |
| Part-load (LTL) via Bangalore/Hyderabad hubs | 8–10 days | Trial orders, small handicraft consignments |
| Rail container service to Tughlakabad/Dadri | 6–8 days | Larger consolidated moves, lower freight per cube |
For Agra buyers who export through JNPT/Nhava Sheva, we can also route from Kochi directly to Mumbai-area packing-line consolidators and skip the Agra leg entirely — useful when the Agra unit only does production and ships through a Bhiwandi or Panvel consolidator.
Choosing a grade
Which plywood for which Agra load
A practical mapping for buyers comparing grades:
- Footwear master cartons stacked on pallets, dry-warehouse to dry-container: our MR packing grade, 8 mm or 10 mm, is the right answer. An Okoume face is overspec.
- Leather goods cartons going air-freight or premium-export route: the buyer often asks for an Okoume face veneer because the customer's QA wants a clean blonde finish. Quote on request.
- Marble inlay export crates, sea route, GCC or EU destination: BWR-grade packing ply 12–18 mm with jackwood framing and ISPM-15 pallets. The crate is structural, not cosmetic.
- Engineering and auto-component crates for sea export: 18 mm BWR for base and floor, 12 mm sides, hardwood runners, ISPM-15 stamped.
- Shuttering / formwork for an Agra construction project: a different conversation entirely — film-faced shuttering ply, separate spec sheet, separate quote.
For every grade our selling rule is purchase rate plus ₹2.50/sq.ft, ex-factory, GST and transport extra. Indicative MR-grade packing prices today: 8 mm at ₹28, 10 mm at ₹31.50, 12 mm at ₹33.50, 18 mm at ₹42 per sq.ft. Okoume-faced and BWR grades are quoted separately.
FAQ
Agra buyer questions
Do you supply directly to Agra or through a North India distributor?
Direct from Kerala. We dispatch from our Perumbavoor operation on a full-truckload basis to the buyer's Agra address — EPIP Shastripuram, Sikandra, Nunhai, Tajganj or any of the surrounding industrial pockets. No North India distributor layer.
Can you supply ISPM-15 stamped pallets and crates ready for sea export?
Yes. We coordinate heat-treatment and ISPM-15 stamping through our packing-line operation. Lead time adds about 2–3 working days to a standard pallet order.
What's the minimum order for a trial dispatch to Agra?
For a road dispatch the truckload economics improve sharply above 18–20 tons. Below that we can route through part-load networks, but the per-sheet freight roughly doubles. For first-time Agra buyers we usually recommend either a full-truck trial or a co-load with another North India order in the same week.
