Packing-grade plywood, crates and pallets for Kolhapur's foundry and engineering belt

We manufacture the packing-grade plywood, crates, pallets and container flooring that Kolhapur's foundries, machine shops and textile-machinery units load behind heavy castings and engineering goods. Built in Perumbavoor, where our group has run since 1986, and trucked up the Konkan lane every week.

The industrial picture

A string of MIDCs, not a single estate

Kolhapur is one of those Maharashtra districts that quietly does the heavy lifting. Between the foundry clusters around Shiroli and Gokul Shirgaon, the textile-machinery shops, the sugar-engineering work that feeds the surrounding co-operative mills, and the Kolhapuri footwear and silver-jewellery trade, the district pushes a steady volume of finished goods out by road and by container. Every one of those goods needs a wooden case, a pallet, a crate or a sheet of plywood under it before it leaves the gate. Before quoting anything, it helps to know which Kolhapur the buyer is in, because the packaging needs vary sharply from one cluster to the next.

Shiroli MIDC — foundry country

Shiroli, on NH-48 about 15 km north of Kolhapur city, is the heart of the district's foundry and machining belt. Ductile-iron and grey-iron castings move out of here in volume — pump bodies, automotive components, valve castings, hydraulic blocks. Foundry-grade output is heavy, oily and unforgiving on weak packing. Buyers here typically need close-boarded plywood cases on heavy-duty pallets, often heat-treated for export.

Gokul Shirgaon MIDC — machine shops and engineering

Gokul Shirgaon, south-east of the city, runs more toward machined parts, textile-machinery sub-assemblies, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and ancillary engineering for the foundry belt. The packing here is a mix of skeleton crates for bulky machine frames and full plywood cases for delicate assemblies.

Five-Star MIDC Kagal and the auto-component belt

The Kagal–Hatkanangale Five-Star MIDC, south of Kolhapur, hosts larger units and tier-1 auto-component suppliers feeding the Pune–Chakan corridor. Container-bound exports out of this belt typically route through JNPT and increasingly through inland container depots, which is where container-flooring plywood and export-grade cases come in.

Textile machinery and sugar engineering

Ichalkaranji, an hour east, is a textile town with a long tail of loom and processing-machinery suppliers. The sugar belt around Kolhapur, Sangli and Karad keeps a steady flow of mill-spares, evaporator parts and pump assemblies moving between factories and mills. Both segments are repeat consumers of packing plywood and ready-cut crate components.

What we ship

Three product families cover the gate

For the typical Kolhapur buyer, three product families cover almost everything that leaves the factory gate, plus container flooring for the exporters.

Packing-grade commercial plywood

Our standard packing range runs from 6 mm to 18 mm in 8x4 sheets, hardwood core, rated for case-making and pallet decking. Thickness selection for Kolhapur loads usually settles around:

ThicknessTypical use in Kolhapur
6–8 mmSide and top panels for light machined-part cases
10–12 mmStandard foundry-casting cases up to about 500 kg
14–16 mmHeavy casting cases, pump bodies, textile-machine frames
18 mmContainer flooring, pallet decks for very heavy loads

Crates and ready-built cases

For buyers who would rather receive crate kits than cut their own, we supply pre-cut plywood panels with matching reapers and battens, sized to the customer's drawing. Foundry shops in Shiroli usually want close-boarded cases; textile-machinery shops in Gokul Shirgaon often prefer skeleton or part-open crates to keep tare weight down and let the receiver inspect the load on arrival. Both can be ISPM-15 heat-treated and stencilled if the goods are container-bound.

Pallets

Standard pallet sizes that move well in the Kolhapur belt:

  • 1200 x 1000 mm — the EUR-friendly size most exporters prefer
  • 1100 x 1100 mm — common for sea-freight to Gulf and South-East Asia
  • 1200 x 800 mm — for buyers shipping into European customers
  • Custom sizes — for awkward castings and machine bases

Container flooring plywood

For the auto-component and engineering exporters running 20-ft and 40-ft containers, we supply 18 mm and 21 mm container-flooring grade, full-size sheets with hardwood face, dimensioned for direct fitment.

Logistics

Kochi to Kolhapur — the Konkan lane

The road distance from Kochi to Kolhapur is about 1,100 km. The lane runs north on NH-66 along the Konkan coast, climbs through Karwar and Goa, then turns inland through Belagavi onto NH-48 into Kolhapur. A loaded 32-ft single-axle truck typically makes the run in three to four days, depending on monsoon conditions on the Konkan stretch and on driver-change schedules.

For full-truck orders we usually route directly by road. For partial loads we consolidate at our Ernakulam loading point and move onto a Maharashtra-bound trunk service. Buyers who want to pull the goods themselves can collect ex-Ernakulam and route via their own transporter; we provide the loading plan, packing list and e-way bill at dispatch. For container-bound consignments routing through JNPT or Mundra, we can supply ISPM-15 compliant cases and pallets carrying the IPPC stencil — flag this at the quote stage so we plan the treatment and documentation correctly.

Choosing a grade

Three rules that stop over- or under-specifying

Three quick decision rules save Kolhapur buyers from over-specifying or under-specifying:

  1. Standard packing range — for domestic movement of castings, sub-assemblies, textile parts and engineering goods within India. This is the workhorse and covers most outbound packing from Shiroli and Gokul Shirgaon.
  2. Okoume face — when the buyer wants a clean, light, presentable face on the case, typically for export consignments where the consignee in the Gulf, Europe or South-East Asia sees the case before it is opened. Okoume is offered as a face-veneer option on both our MR-Packing and BWR grades, not as a separate grade.
  3. Shuttering plywood — not packing at all. Reserved for the infrastructure and construction buyers around Kolhapur: bridge work on the highway upgrades, sugar-mill civil expansions, and commercial construction in the city.

FAQ

Common questions from the Kolhapur belt

Do you offer ISPM-15 heat-treated crates for export shipments out of Kolhapur?

Yes. For container-bound consignments routing through JNPT or Mundra, we supply ISPM-15 compliant cases and pallets with the IPPC stencil. Mention this at the quote stage so we plan the treatment and documentation correctly.

What is the minimum order quantity for a Kolhapur delivery?

For full-truck dispatches we are most efficient at around 600–700 sheets or a comparable mix of cut components. For smaller quantities we can ride a partial load on a Maharashtra-bound consolidation, though transit will be slightly longer.

Can you supply against a drawing, or do you only sell standard sheets?

Both. Standard 8x4 sheets are the most common dispatch, but for crate-makers and engineering buyers we regularly cut to size, supply panels with matching reapers, and quote per piece against the buyer's drawing.

Price your Kolhapur load

If you are sourcing packing plywood, crates, pallets or container flooring for a unit in the Kolhapur belt — Shiroli, Gokul Shirgaon, Kagal, Ichalkaranji or anywhere else in the district — the fastest way to a workable price is to request a quote with the thickness, size, monthly quantity and delivery address. For background on grades, decision rules and the lane economics we work to, the resource hub has the rest of the detail. Our group has manufactured in Perumbavoor since 1986, and Kolhapur is well within the corridor we serve every week.
