Packing plywood, crates and pallets for Solapur's textile, beedi and agri-equipment belt
We manufacture packing-grade plywood, crates, pallets and container flooring out of Perumbavoor, Kerala, and run the Kochi-to-Solapur lane every week. Our group has built packing material in Perumbavoor since 1986. Send a thickness and quantity and we return a landed rate.
The industrial picture
Why Solapur sits in our weekly despatch register
Solapur rarely makes the industrial headlines, but anyone moving plywood in western India keeps a column for it. The district runs on three engines that all need wood-based packaging: the cotton-textile cluster around the Solapur MIDC and Chincholi belt, the beedi-tobacco trade that pushes processed leaf out by the truckload, and a growing agri-equipment and oil-engine vertical along NH-65 toward Pune. Add the cement, foundry and granite work around Tuljapur Road and you have a steady call for packing-grade plywood, crates, pallets and the occasional container floor.
Buyers from these clusters routinely call our desk asking for packing-grade plywood by the bundle:
- Solapur MIDC (Akkalkot Road) and Chincholi MIDC — textile processing, terry-towel weaving, bedsheet finishing and ancillary engineering. Bale packing, finished-goods cartons over wooden pallets, and crates for export terry-towel consignments are the recurring asks.
- Beedi and tobacco trade in the old city and Barshi belt — processed-leaf cases, plywood-lined wooden boxes for despatch to UP, Karnataka and the GCC, and pallets for warehouse stacking.
- Agri-equipment and oil-engine units along NH-65 toward Mohol and Pandharpur — heavy machine crates with ply lids and shooks, full-frame export boxes for diesel engines and water-pump sets, and treated pallets.
- Foundry, granite and cement ancillaries near Hotgi and Tuljapur Road — heavy-duty pallets for casting movement, and occasional shuttering ply for in-plant civil work.
- Cold storage and grape/pomegranate exporters in the wider Solapur-Pandharpur belt — crates and pallet runners for outbound containers headed to JNPT.
The common thread is bulk, repeat and price-sensitive. Solapur buyers know their per-sheet rates to the rupee, and they expect a packing grade that holds nails, takes a screw, and survives a long road-haul to the port without delamination.
What we ship
The range we send into Solapur
Packing-grade plywood (commercial / rubberwood)
The workhorse. Most Solapur crate-makers and bale-packing units run on 8 mm, 12 mm and 18 mm sheets. Our packing range is poplar-core and rubberwood-faced where needed, calibrated for nail-holding and clean saw-cut edges. Standard size 8 ft x 4 ft, with 6 ft x 3 ft and odd cuts available on bundle orders. Indicative ex-factory selling rates (₹/sq.ft, GST and freight extra):
| Thickness | ₹/sq.ft (ex-factory) |
|---|---|
| 6 mm | 24 |
| 8 mm | 28 |
| 10 mm | 31.5 |
| 12 mm | 33.5 |
| 14 mm | 36 |
| 15 mm | 39 |
| 16 mm | 39.5 |
| 18 mm | 42 |
These are packing-grade numbers, not furniture grade — buyers comparing against a BWR brand quote should expect the gap.
Okoume face option
Okoume is a face-veneer option on our packing and BWR grades, priced on request. We supply it into Solapur mainly for export crates where the consignee specifies a hardwood face — typically agri-equipment headed to Africa or the GCC, and high-value engineering goods where the outer face needs to take a stencil or screen-printed shipping mark cleanly. It is lighter than gurjan-faced ply at comparable thicknesses, which matters when the crate plus cargo is fighting a road-freight weight limit.
Crates, full boxes and shooks
For Solapur loads we usually quote three formats: full assembled crates for one-shot exporters, knock-down shook sets where the buyer's own carpenter assembles on the shop floor, and ply tops/lids supplied separately when the buyer is framing with sawn timber locally. Beedi-trade boxes tend to be small and standardised; agri-equipment crates are one-off and drawing-driven.
Pallets
Two-way and four-way entry, with 1200 x 800 mm and 1200 x 1000 mm being the most common. ISPM-15 heat treatment with the IPPC stamp is available on the sawn-timber components for export-bound pallets — non-negotiable for anything headed to JNPT for an EU or GCC container.
Container flooring
Apitong / keruing container floorboards on request, mainly for the trailer-body fabricators in the wider Maharashtra belt rather than Solapur city itself. Quoted by the lot.
Sawn timber
Jackwood hardwood runners at ₹400/cft (¼ inch minus tolerance) and rubberwood runners to size — these go alongside ply bundles for buyers building crates in-house.
Logistics
The Kochi-to-Solapur lane
Solapur sits about 900 km from Kochi by road via NH-66 up the Karnataka coast, then NH-50 / NH-65 inland through Hubballi and Vijayapura. Practical road-freight transit is three to four days door-to-door for a single full-truck consignment, longer if the buyer is consolidating a part-load. We despatch ex-Perumbavoor (Ernakulam district), which sits about 30 km inland from Cochin Port and feeds directly onto NH-544 for the Karnataka leg.
Full-truck economics work best at 18-20 tonnes of finished plywood, which lines up to roughly 280-340 sheets of 18 mm packing grade, or proportionally more at lower thicknesses. For Solapur buyers who cannot absorb a full truck, we consolidate with other Maharashtra-bound loads heading to Pune, Sangli or Kolhapur. Port-to-port via Cochin and JNPT is an option for export-bound crates the buyer wants delivered already-stuffed, but the road lane wins on cost and time for raw plywood and pallet stock. For export pallets and crates, ISPM-15 heat treatment and the phytosanitary stamp are applied on the sawn-timber components before despatch.
Choosing a grade
Which grade for which Solapur load
| Use case | Recommended grade | Typical thickness |
|---|---|---|
| Terry-towel and bedsheet bale packing | Commercial packing grade | 6-8 mm |
| Beedi / tobacco despatch boxes | Commercial packing grade | 8-12 mm |
| Oil-engine and pump-set export crates | Packing grade body, Okoume face | 12-18 mm |
| Heavy agri-implement crates | Packing grade, jackwood runners | 18 mm + framing |
| ISPM-15 export pallets | Packing grade deck, treated sawn timber | 12-15 mm deck |
| In-plant shuttering for civil work | Shuttering ply (film-faced) | 12-18 mm |
FAQ
Common questions from Solapur buyers
What is the minimum order to despatch to Solapur?
We prefer full-truck loads of around 18-20 tonnes for the best per-sheet landed cost. Part-loads are possible when we are consolidating other Maharashtra deliveries in the same week — ask the desk what is moving.
Are the sheets ISI-marked or BWP-grade?
The packing range is graded for packaging use, not BWP / IS 303 furniture grade. If a buyer needs BWP/BWR for a specific application, that is a separate quote — speak to us about the Okoume face option or our BWR line.
How are payment and freight handled?
Standard practice is part-advance against the proforma invoice, balance against the LR copy at despatch. Freight is quoted either inclusive (door-delivered Solapur) or ex-Perumbavoor, depending on whether the buyer has their own preferred transporter on the lane.

If you are running a crate shop in Chincholi MIDC, a textile unit on Akkalkot Road, or an export-bound engineering line anywhere in the Solapur district, send across the thickness, quantity and delivery point and we will come back with a landed rate and a despatch window. The fastest route is to request a quote with the specs in hand — sheet size, thickness, monthly off-take and delivery PIN. Buyers who want to read up on grades, ISPM-15 and packing-case economics before getting on a call can browse the resource hub.
