Packing-grade plywood, crates and pallets shipped from Kochi to Nagpur
We manufacture the packing-grade plywood, crates and pallets that move cargo out of Nagpur's MIHAN SEZ, Butibori and Hingna estates. Our group has run plywood operations in Perumbavoor since 1986, and Nagpur is one of our regular trailer lanes. One desk for specification, pricing and delivered freight.
The industrial picture
Five packing markets meeting at India's Zero Mile
Nagpur is the closest thing India has to a logistics centre of gravity. Cargo here moves north to Delhi, south to Chennai, east to Kolkata and west to the JNPT and Mumbai ports on broadly similar truck-day economics. That single fact reshapes what the factories around the city ship and how they pack it. Nagpur's plywood-packing demand is not one market but at least five, each with a different load profile.
MIHAN SEZ and the aerospace cluster
MIHAN (Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) was built around an air-cargo proposition, and the cluster around it now spans aircraft maintenance and overhaul units, avionics shops and aerospace component manufacturers. Aerospace movements need crates with predictable moisture behaviour, ISPM-15 compliance on international legs, and tight tolerance on internal dunnage. Case walls here are typically 12 mm or 18 mm, with 18 mm or 25 mm bearers.
Butibori and Hingna MIDC
Butibori is one of Asia's larger industrial estates by area, with Hingna sitting closer to the city. Between them you have heavy electrical equipment, transformer makers, auto-component suppliers, steel fabrication and CNC machine builders. These are pallet-and-crate buyers in the literal sense: pallets to move work-in-progress across the shop floor, and heavy export crates for finished goods bound for the JNPT or Mundra ports. EUR-pallet (1200 x 800 mm) and ISO-pallet (1200 x 1000 mm) deck sizes dominate.
Orange and agri-export belt
The Vidarbha orange belt around Katol, Kalmeshwar, Narkhed and Warud ships fresh and processed produce out via Mumbai and Mundra to the GCC. Plywood boxes for export-grade fruit need light-weight, low-moisture panels that clear phytosanitary inspection.
Coal, mining and power equipment
The coal trade headquartered at Nagpur and the surrounding thermal-power equipment business generate a quiet but steady stream of demand for shuttering ply during plant construction and heavy-duty crating for rotating equipment.
Container flooring and trailer-body shops
The trailer and container-body fabricators along the Wardha Road and Kamptee Road belt buy 28 mm container-flooring panels by the lot.
What we ship
Four product families, cut to the buyer's bill of materials
Our standard supply to the city falls into four product families. We do not stock-and-sell from a Nagpur yard: these move on direct trailers from our facilities in Perumbavoor, cut and pre-bundled to the buyer's bill of materials.
Packing-grade plywood (MR / BWR)
The workhorse. Hardwood-core, phenolic-bonded panels in 8 ft x 4 ft sheets. Common thicknesses we ship to Nagpur:
| Thickness | Typical Nagpur use-case |
|---|---|
| 6 mm | Light fruit-export boxes, internal dividers |
| 9 mm | Component cartons, light crates |
| 12 mm | General-purpose crates, MIHAN airfreight cases |
| 18 mm | Heavy export crates, transformer cases, pallet deckboards |
| 25 mm | Bearers, pallet stringers, equipment skids |
Okoume face-veneer option
Where the buyer wants a cleaner face — typically for export crates inspected at the receiving port, or for fruit-export boxes where face-fibre matters — we supply the packing and BWR grades with an Okoume face veneer. This is a veneer option on those grades, not a separate grade, and it sits at a premium to the standard MR-Packing range. Quote on request.
Pallets and crate kits
We ship loose plywood, pre-cut kits, or finished pallets and crates. Standard pallet sizes we build for Nagpur shops include 1200 x 800 mm (EUR), 1200 x 1000 mm (ISO), 1100 x 1100 mm (Asia) and bespoke heavy-duty decks for transformer and machine-tool loads. ISPM-15 heat-treatment is available on the wooden runners where the export leg requires it.
Container flooring
28 mm phenolic-faced container-flooring boards in standard 2440 x 1220 mm sheets for the trailer and container-body fabricators on Wardha Road.
Logistics
Kochi to Nagpur — the lane that decides the price
The Kochi-to-Nagpur leg is roughly 1,500 km by road. Realistic transit on a single-trailer movement is 4 to 5 days door-to-door, depending on whether the trailer routes via Bangalore, Hyderabad and Adilabad or via Mangalore, Pune and Aurangabad. We dispatch from Perumbavoor (north of Kochi, about 30 km from Cochin Port) on 32 ft or 40 ft trailers carrying 25 to 28 tonnes of plywood per load, which works out to roughly 750 to 900 sheets of 18 mm equivalent per trailer.
For Nagpur buyers this means two things. First, full-trailer (FTL) economics dominate: a single buyer ordering one full load gets a meaningfully lower landed cost than a part-load. Second, lead time from PI to delivered material is usually 10 to 14 days — about 7 days for production and dispatch, plus 4 to 5 days in transit. Where the final destination is the GCC, we have also routed export-bound material via Cochin Port and the JNPT, which often beats sending a finished crate back across India.
Choosing a grade
Which grade fits which load
A short operator's heuristic for buyers in the city:
- Load going by sea and inspected at destination — specify an Okoume face on at least the visible panels. The cleaner face passes scrutiny better.
- Heavy machinery moving by road or rail within India — MR-Packing grade in 18 mm walls with 25 mm bearers is the standard call.
- Fruit going to the GCC via Mundra — 6 mm or 9 mm MR-Packing in pre-cut box kits, ISPM-15 stamp on the bearers, keeps cost-per-box defensible.
- Plant or substation construction at Butibori or Koradi — shuttering ply, not packing grade. Different specification, different price.
- Container or trailer-body fabrication — 28 mm phenolic container-flooring, no substitute.
FAQ
Common questions from Nagpur buyers
What is the minimum order quantity for delivery to Nagpur?
For a direct trailer dispatch from Perumbavoor, the economics start to work at roughly one full trailer — 25 tonnes, or about 750 to 900 sheets of 18 mm equivalent. Smaller quantities are possible, but the per-sheet freight share gets heavy. Many Nagpur buyers consolidate a quarter's requirement into one FTL.
Do you supply ISPM-15 certified packing material?
Yes. For export-bound crates and pallets we supply with ISPM-15 heat-treatment stamps on the wooden runners, which clears most international ports, including the GCC, Vietnam, US and EU receiving terminals.
How long does a quote take?
With the thickness, sheet size, total quantity and a Nagpur delivery pincode, a firm PI usually goes back the same working day. Bespoke crate kits or pallet designs need 24 to 48 hours for the bill of materials.
